2025 Bylaws Revision
Proposed Updates
At the February directors meeting of the Candler Park Conservancy, directors voted by the required two-thirds majority to move forward with plans to amend our organization's bylaws. Per Article 9 of the bylaws, these amendments will now be posted for 30 days here for public review and comment.
All comments can be sent by email to: info@candlerparkconservancy.org
The amended bylaws are below. A quick overview of the proposed amendments:
The bylaws call for three distinct types of directors of the board. Because we are a small, volunteer organization, this provides additional burden when we would rather focus our efforts on making improvements to the park. The proposed change would simplify this to a single type of director.
We seek to eliminate "non-voting affiliates" from the bylaws. This designation has never been used in practice. All are welcome to attend our meetings. Creating a special designation among outside groups or people isn't necessary.
We seek to eliminate the need to create a charter for any new committee. That is a purely clerical exercise that, again, creates additional burden with no real benefit. All committees are clearly tasked with a scope of work, so we do not need to spend time debating about the verbiage of a charter.
We plan to allow officers to continue longer in their leadership roles, though we require a two-thirds majority vote to do so.
We are adjusting the requirements on our monthly directors meetings, bringing them in line with current practices by allowing virtual meetings.
We are adding the Treasurer as someone who can issue checks and payments for the organization. In practice, this is how we operate already.
