Little Free Library

Girl Scout Troop 21669 chose to use their yearly service project as a way to help enhance Candler Park. The group of rising 5th graders built a Little Free Library at the Atlanta Tool Bank, and it was installed earlier this week.

Below is an article about the process written by two of the Scouts, Sasha Hyde and Evangeline Seals.

Troop 21669 4th grade service project – Little Free Library

Every year our Girl Scout Troop does a service project. We pay for the projects by selling Girl Scout Cookies. We have visited animal and homeless family shelters and brought donations. This year, we (troop 21669) made a Little Free Library for Candler Park and painted the new Candler Park sign. ‘How did we make the Little Free Library?’ you may ask. Well, troop 21669 worked with The Atlanta ToolBank.

The Atlanta ToolBank is a place where charities rent tools for their organization and their mission. It is located in Summerhill and in a large warehouse. The Atlanta ToolBank began in 1991. Throughout the years they have taught the community in camps and education programs.

Our Troop visited the Atlanta ToolBank to build a Little Library for Candler Park. It was easy because the Atlanta ToolBank Director CJ Clark helped us with the tools. She taught us how to use a Phillips head screwdriver, a hammer, and a power drill! It was a fun volunteer experience and as a first-time volunteer I felt supported.

We are very grateful to the Candler Park Conservancy for letting us paint their new sign and and thanks to The Atlanta ToolBank for being so helpful. You will find the Little Free Library at the Candler Park Playground. We hope you enjoy it.
