Concrete Planters Repurposed

There were two empty concrete planters in beautiful locations in the park. Neither of these had been maintained in years, and were overgrown with weeds.

The first space was in the meadow between the Amy Erwin Memorial Garden and the upper pavilion. You would be forgiven to have overlooked this particular feature, as the cracked concrete and overgrown weeds were causing it to blend in to the general landscape.

Our team of 20 volunteers completely transformed this space by weeding the entire planter, spreading slate chips, painting the concrete a beautiful green color to match the poolhouse, and installing a new picnic table.

The repurposed planted now has new life as a gathering space for the community.

But the work didn’t stop there. We had an additional concrete pad that wasn’t being utilized, just off the entrance path that leads into the park from Candler Park Drive.

With a view straight down the second fairway on the Candler Park golf course, this space offered the opportunity to create one of the most breath-taking views in the park.

The Candler Park Conservancy projects committee cleared out the area, spread slate chips, and installed a new bench featuring one of the best views in the city.
